Alternate Side Parking and Snow in NYC
NYC often suspends alternate side parking during and after snowstorms, when sweepers can't work and plows need the roads. These suspensions are not on the yearly calendar — the city announces them as weather happens, typically the day before or the morning of.
How to know if it's suspended
- Our ASP today page checks NYC 311's live calendar every hour.
- NYC 311 (online, app or phone) and @NYCASP on social media post every change.
- Broomday adds snow suspensions to your reminders automatically, so you won't be told to move your car on a day it isn't needed.
What still applies
A suspension covers street cleaning rules only. No-standing, no-stopping, hydrant and bus-stop rules remain in effect, and during a snow emergency the city can tow cars blocking designated snow routes.
